Solution

Fossil fuels are the sources of energy which are formed in the geological past from the dead bodies or remains of living organisms like animals plants insects etc. which were compressed under the earth and sea levels and get converted into fuels by the high pressure and other environmental changes.

They are called as Fossil fuels , because, the remains of dead plants or animals or other organisms found from geological eras are called as fossils.

Use of coal is considered irreplaceable in several industries means that there are some industries in which there is no alternative source of energy which can be used in place of coal. This is because coal is available in very large amounts and is cheaper on the other hand alternative sources of energy are neither cheaper nor easily available on such a large scale.
