What are hydrocarbons, alkanes, alkenes, alkynes?
Hydrocarbons:class of organic chemical compounds composed only of the elements carbon (C) and hydrogen (H). The carbon atoms join together to form the framework of the compound; the hydrogen atoms attach to them in many different configurations.
Alkanes: They are the simplest organic molecules, consisting of only carbon and hydrogen and with only single bonds between carbon atoms.
Alkenes: They are aliphatic hydrocarbons containing carbon-carbon double bonds and general formula CnH2n
Alkynes: They are organic molecules made of the functional group carbon-carbon triple bonds. They are written in the empirical formula of CnH2n-2.
