Question

What are mutations and why are they generally recessive?

Open in App
Solution

Mutation is a change in the sequence of nucleotides in a DNA either by addition, deletion or subsitution of one or more nucleotides in the DNA. This change in sequence results in the formation of altered protein that can be harmful or beneficial depending on type of mutation.
Mostly mutations are recessive because most of the time mutations produce an inactive protein that does not have any effect on the trait.
