Question

what are primate and non primate organisms?

Open in App
Solution

Primates are the mammals that belong to order primate. Primates are divided into two groups which contain prosimians (including lemurs, lorises, galagos and tarsiers) and anthropoids (monkeys and apes - including humans).
These are the certain characteristics of primates:
  • Unfused and highly mobile radius and ulna in the forelimb and tibia and fibula in the hind,
  • Comparatively poor sense of smell,
  • Prehensile five-digit hands and feet possessing flat nails instead of claws
  • Primate teeth are distinguishable from those of other mammals
The mammals which do not have these characteristics are called non- primates.
