Question

What are Rizopus and Mucor? How do they help in reproduction through spores?

Open in App
Solution

Rhizophus and Mucor are saprophytic fungi and grow on dead organic material and reproduce through the proces of spore formation.
In Rhizophus and Mucor asexual reproduction takes place by the formation of non-motile spores. In rhizophus many sporangiophores arise from a single node on stolon, while in mucor single sporangiophores arise from a single node on stolon.
Mainly two types of spores are involved in asexual reproduction : chlamydospores and aplanospores. In some cases mucor also reproduces asexually by the formation of oidia.
