Agar is usually the medium of choice for the spores. Cultivating mushroom starts with a spore which germinates into hyphae. This process includes,

• Transfer spores to agar
• Grow them into mycelium
• Transfer the mycelium to grain
• Incubate the spawn
• Transfer the spawn to the final medium
• Raise them to adult mushroom stage
  
  Important Note: In a sterile environment only, mushroom cultivation is possible in agar.
