Its main functions are:- It do not allow the fusion of sperms with ovum and in case, if they get fused it prevents their attachment in the uterus wall, thus prevents pregnancy.

Once the device is removed the effects are reversed.The side effects are minimal and are usually seen only in the initial period after the device has been inserted.
