Colonial management of the forests in Bastar and in Java were largely the same including the colonial management of forests for timber, the suppression of revolts, and the permission to the forest tribes to stay in the reserved forests in lieu of free labour.
The difference between the two was the fact that in the case of Bastar it was the British and in the case of Java, it was the Dutch who did the same.
