Classification of magnetic substances:
Diamagnetic substance: A substance in which the atoms or molecules do not possess any net magnetic moment on their own is a diamagnetic substance, these are repelled by a magnet or magnetic field.
Ferromagnetic substance: A substance that gets strongly magnetized in presence of an external magnetic field is a ferromagnetic substance.In this the atoms or molecules possess a non zero magnetic moment.
Paramagnetic substance: A substance that gets weakly magnetized in presence of an external magnetic field is a paramagnet. In this the atoms or molecules possess a net non zero magnetic moment.
