Disadvantages of biodegradable substances

  1. The biodegradable substances take a lot of land, water, gas, use of fertilizers and pesticides to grow.
  2. Biodegradable plastics usually take a lot of time to degrade and may require conditions of high temperature and humidity to decompose which can be met only in industries.

Disadvantages of non-biodegradable substances

  1. The accumulated non-biodegradable substances in landfills change the porosity of land and cause depletion of groundwater.
  2. Certain non-biodegradable substances are toxic in nature which may come to humans in form of food that is grown on land.
  3. Animals eat the non-biodegradable substances which persist in their bodies and eventually lead to death.
