What are the fertilisation events?
Fertilization is the process of fusion of the male gamete (sperm) with the female gamete (egg) resulting in the formation of zygote which further develops to form the fetus. During the intercourse, sperm is ejaculated from the male reproductive system in the female reproductive tract. Sperm move through the uterus into the fallopian tube where it fuses with the egg present in the tube. The membranes of both the gametes fuse and changes occur in the fertilized egg cell such that no other sperm can fuse with it.
This fusion of the male and female gamete brings together 23 chromosome of the male gamete with 23 chromosome of the female gamete, resulting in the formation of zygote containing 46 chromosome. This zygote further develops to form the fetus.
