The earth’s surface is divided in various zones based on occurrence of earthquakes. These are called seismic zones which are as follows:
  1. Zone 2 – This is the low damage risk zone or the least active seismic zone
  2. Zone 3 – This is the moderate damage risk zone. Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Western Himalayas fall in this category
  3. Zone 4 – This is the high damage risk zone. In India Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir fall in this region
  4. Zone 5 – This is the very high damage risk zone where the earthquakes occur very frequently like Rann of Kutch, North east India region, Western and Central Himalayas
