Whooping cough (Pertussis) is a highly contagious disease caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis which infects the respiratory system of the infected person. Sneezing, nasal congestion, mild fever, vomiting and coughing fits are few of the symptoms of this disease. When an infected person coughs and sneezes, bacteria with the droplets come out and infect another person. Apart from cough, runny nose, fever and diarrhea are other symptoms of this disease. It can be treated by giving antibiotics like erythromycin.
