There are two types of chromosomes autosomes and sex chromosomes. Those chromosomes which do not play a role in determining the gender of an individual and do not possess sex related traits are called as autosomes (22 pairs in humans) while others are known as sex chromosomes or allosomes (1 pair in humans).
