Kingdom plantae is divided into two major groups- Cryptogamae (seedless and flowerless) and Phanerogamae (having flowers and seeds).

Thallophytes, bryophytes and pteridophytes are cryptogams.

Gymnosperms and angiosperms are phanerogams.

Pteridophyta, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms are the vascular plants. They have vascular tissues for conducting various substances within their body. Angiosperms are further classified on the basis of number of cotyledons they have:

1) Monocots(having single cotyledons):

  • have fibrous root system
  • vascular bundles are arranged in complex form.

2) Dicots (having two cotyledons):

  • have tap root system
  • vascular bundles are arranged in a ring.
