Question

What can we say about

  1. the appearence of areas of low and high pressurein coastal areas at night?
  2. the direction in which air would flow at night in coastal areas?

Solution

At night, both land and sea start to cool. The land surface cools down much faster as compared to the water surface. Therefore, the air over land is cooler in comparison to the air over water. A high pressure area is thus created over the land surface and a low pressure area prevails over the water surface.

This causes wind to blow from the land surface towards the water surface during the night.
