For successful grafting, the stock and scion should be compatible to each other and should have identical cambium organization and structure. So, when stock and scion are placed together with properly aligned vascular bundles, the stock and scion get attached as the plant heals itself and the vascular bundles are joined.

For grafting, the stock must have good water absorbing capacity and must be better adapted to soil conditions. The scion must be from a plant with desirable characteristic like a specific variety of fruit.

No, plants are not producers of energy, plants are food producers. They take up sun's light energy and convert it into food which acts as a source of energy for other animals.So, they don't produce energy on their own but convert energy from one form to another.
