Dietrich Brandis, the first IG of Forests of India, introduced the system of Scientific Forestry in india, because he and of course the British wanted to frame laws which would restrict the felling of trees by the foresters and villagers. For this, a system which emphasised on MONOCULTURE was introduced in which old and matured trees were cut and new ones replanted so that their needs too get fulfilled and there occurs no shortage of oak timber.
