Alloys are the homogeneous mixture of metals. It shows properties of its constituents and can have variable composition.

For eg. -
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc , While Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin.
Here, If copper is mixed with zinc brass is formed. But, combination of copper with tin forms bronze. Thus, when composition is changed, alloy is changed. Therefore, they are the substance of variable composition.
