Solution

The organisms belonging to the phylum chordata are known as chordates. They are characterized by the presence of notochord ( A dorsal longitudinally running rod lying between the dorsal nerve tube and the gut which increases locomotory power and provides internal support to the organisms).

Vertebrata is the sub-phylum of Chordata. The organisms belonging to this sub-phylum are known as vertebrates. They possess notochord in the embryonic stage only and in adults, it is replaced by a vertebral column.
