Resources take a very long geological time in their formation. Geological time means millions of years taken before human existence in resource formation on earth.
To represent the geological time, geological timescale is constructed in which the history of earth, prior to human existence, is divided into time interval. The largest division is called eons, which span millions of years and eons are further divided into eras, periods and epochs.
Thus we can say that since there rate of formation is very slow they cannot be renewed in short period of time and hence called non renewable resources. E.g. Coal, petroleum, iron etc.
