The kind of cells they are made of’ is more basic characteristic for classifying organisms. If organisms are classified on the basis of the kind of cells they are made i.e. eukaryotic or prokaryotic , then there are two groups of organisms-prokaryotes and eukaryotes which is used in hierarchical classification and will also let us know whether they have the ability in making a multicellular or unicellular organism.

We cannot classify organism according to the place they live because different organisms sharing the same habitat may have entirely different form and structure and other morphological features, which might create confusion.
