Question

What do you mean amplitude,angular frequency,phase constant and sinusoidal?

Open in App
Solution

Amplitude

Amplitude of a wave is defined as the maximum possible displacement produced in a wave particle with respect to the mean position.

.

Angular Frequency

Angular frequency (ω) is defined as the rate at which the angular displacement (θ) of a body around a fixed point changes with time (t). It is represented as

ω = θ/t

so, it basically tells us how a body rotates or moves around a fixed axis.

.

Phase

Phase angle (or phase) is the angular displacement of a point on a wave with respect to a certain fixed point, the origin. It also tells us what portion of the wave has elapsed up to that point (taking origin as the starting point).

.

Sinusoidal

Sinusoidal means 'sinewave like' which means that the wave (or signal) has a smooth periodic variation about a fixed axis (mean position) in time.
