An electric impulse is a short, transient voltage difference (potential difference) created across the membrane of neuron due to movement of ions through voltage-gated channel. This difference in voltage is created due to unequal distribution of ions like Na⁺and K⁺ across the membrane. This is important for conduction of nerve signal through axon of neurons.
