What do you mean by modified roots? Examples of modified roots in my text says storing of food,giving support and climbing up.Dont normal plants also do that?

When the roots change their structures to perform some unusual functions like respiration, food storage, provide additional support to the stem etc. the roots are known as modified roots. Usually the function of the roots is to hold the plant with the ground. Normal plant roots do not store food or perform respiration. But the modified roots like roots of sweet potato (food storage or pneumatophores of mangrove trees (respiration) are specially designed to perform these additional functions.
