Jhum cultivation is a form of slash and burn cultivation wherein plants in forest are cut and burnt for the purpose of making fields. Most of the tribal groups of northeast India practice this type cultivation and it is prevalent in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland as well as Bangladesh.
The piece of land is set on fire, destructing all the vegetation on it. Thereafter this land is used for growing rice, fruits, and vegetables. This is a type of cultivation and is practiced in hill slopes.
