Question

what happens to the kinetic energy of the particles of a liquid when it's temperature is raised? State the name and symbol of SI unit of temperature. the boiling point of water is 100C .convert this temperature is SI unit.

Solution

Kinetic energy of a molecule is directly proportional to the the temperature, thus if the temperature is raised the kinetic energy will also increase.

The S.I unit of temperature is Kelvin (K). The temperature in Celsius scale can be converted to Kelvin by using the following conversion:

K = C + 273.

So, if C = 100 Degree Celsius

K = 100 + 273 = 373 K

The temperature in Kelvin scale corresponding to 100 Degree Celsius is 373 K.
