Question

what happens to visible light of the sun when it falls on chlorophyll ?

Open in App
Solution

We know that the green plants are green in colour because they contain a pigment called chlorophyll. When a visible light falls on chlorophyll, it absorbs certain wavelengths of light within the visible light spectrum. Chlorophyll absorbs longer wavelength i.e.red light and the shorter wavelength i.e. blue light of the visible light spectrum. Green light is not absorbed but reflected, making the plant appear green.
