what happens when ac current passes through high resistance wire
Hi Sasidhar!
When an alternating current is passed through a high resistance wire, the wire will become very hot. If the temperature of the wire reaches the melting point of the material of the wire, it will melt down. This heating effect of electric current is the principle of operation of electric heaters. The heating coil of electric heater is made up of nichrome, which is an alloy of nickel, chromium and iron. It has high melting point (14000C), so it will not melt down easily.
