Question

what happens when bromine attacks pent-1-ene-4-yne

Open in App
Solution

Bromine will attack on both the alkene and alkyne groups i.e. on double bond and triple bond but the major product will be with the double bond because the relative reactivity of bromine will be faster with alkene and hence the major product will be
4,5-dibromo-1-pentyne.
