Open in App
Solution

Metallic oxides are basic in nature, therefore, they will react with acids to from salt and water. they will not react with bases.

Metallic oxide + Acid → Metal salt + water

CuO + 2 HCl → CuCl2 + H2O.

Non-metallic oxides are acidic in nature, thus, they will react with bases to form salt and water. They do not react with acids.

Non-Metallic oxide + Base → Non-Metal salt + water

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + H2O.
