Metallic oxides are basic in nature, therefore, they will react with acids to from salt and water. they will not react with bases.
Metallic oxide + Acid â†’ Metal salt + water
CuO + 2 HCl â†’ CuCl₂ + H₂O.
Non-metallic oxides are acidic in nature, thus, they will react with bases to form salt and water. They do not react with acids.
Non-Metallic oxide + Base â†’ Non-Metal salt + water
Ca(OH)₂ + CO₂ â†’ CaCO₃ + H₂O.
