Question

what happens when zinc granules are treated delute solutions of H2So4, HCI, HNO3, NACL, naoh also write chemical equation in each case if reaction occurs

Open in App
Solution

1) Zn granule with H2SO4

Zn + H2SO4 ---------> ZnSO4 + H2

2) Zn granules with HCl

Zn + 2HCl ---------> ZnCl2 + H2

3) Zn granules with nitric acid

Zn + 2HNO3 ----------> Zn(NO3)2 + H2

4) Zn granules with NaCl

No reaction will take place as Zn is placed below Na in the activity series. Hence it cannot displace Na from its salt

5) Zn granules with NaOH

This reaction with occur only with hot and concentrated solution of NaOH.

Zn + 2NaOH ----> Na2ZnO2 + H2
