Open in App
Solution

In mature female gamete(embryo sac) of the flowering plants, a group of 3 cells are located towards the chalaizal end. These cells are known as antipodal cells.Till now the specific function of antipodal cells is unknown.

The process of union of two gametes as in fertilization or the fusion of two nuclei to form a single zygote is called syngamy.

The fusion involving two polar nuclei and a sperm nucleus that occurs in double fertilization in a seed plant and results in the formation of the endosperm is called triple fusion. As two polar nuclei fuse with a male gamete, three cell fuse in this process and it is called triple fusion.
