Question

What is charge and how is it connected with electron and proton

Open in App
Solution

Charge:

  1. Electric charge is a physical property of matter that causes it to experience a force when near other electrically charged matter.

  2. It is the basic property of material.

  3. Its SI unit is Coulomb.

  4. Charge is of two types: Positive and Negative.

  5. There is repulsion between like charges and attraction between unlike charges.

Charge is connected with electron and proton in this way:

  • When an atom looses electron, then number of proton becomes more than the number of electron, so atom will contain positive charge and called as cation.

  • When an atom gains electron, then number of electron becomes more than the number of proton, so atom will contain negative charge and called as anion.

By this way charge is related to the electrons and protons.
