A coalition government is a government formed by an alliance of two or more political parties, when no single party enjoys majority support of the members in a legislature.
The coalition government imposes certain restraints on the Prime Minister from taking independent decisions:
a. There are political compulsions on him , as he has to accommodate interests of various factions and parties which are part of the coalition.
b. He has to listen to varied views presented by the coalition partners.
c. The Prime Minister while allocating portfolios also has to satisfy all the partners.
d. The Prime Minister also faces the challenge of reaching at a consensus on various policy matters.
