Due to prolonged exposure to the high doses of hormone cortisol, Cushing’s syndrome is caused.

The symptoms of this disease are rapid weight gain particularly of face and trunk, insomnia, bone weakness, skin necrosis, dry and brittle hairs, baldness etc. Hypertension, hyperglycemia, gastrointestinal disturbance are some other side symptoms observed in Cushing’s syndrome.

By inhibiting the cortisol intake this disease can be treated. Several medicines are there which inhibits cortisol synthesis.

Cushing’s syndrome also occurs in domestic dogs, cats and horses.
