what is difference between a true ribs and floating ribs?
Humans have 12 pairs of ribs and each of them is attached to the spine. Among these 12 pairs upper 7 pairs which are attached to the sternum or breast bone are called true ribs, while the lower 5 pairs are not directly connected to the sternum and are called false ribs, of these 3 pairs are connected via the cartilage to the ribs just above them but the last 2 pairs of ribs are only connected to the spine and have no attachment in the front, these last 2 pairs are called floating ribs.
