Question

What is difference between using sine and cosine function for displacement of particle?

Open in App
Solution

Physically we can use both sine and cosine wave to represent the displacement of a particle the only difference would be geometrical as in the phase difference between the two waves is by π/2. This would mean that a particle represented by a cosine wave would be ahead in phase terms (and also path terms) compared to a particle represented by a sine wave.
