Distillation is a method of purification and refining the metal from ore which is used to purify various metals such as Cd,Hg and Zn. This method is defined as separation of metal from the ore on the bases of volatile property of metal and non-volatile property of impurities present along with metal. Thus volatile metal can be obtained in another container to separate it from impurities.
Distillation process without distillation apparatus can be done by heating ore at particular temperature in a large test tube separated by three different cork and then heating the test tube under flame of burner.
