Solution

DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA is a hereditary unit of the cell which contains information for development and functioning of the organism.

A chromosome is a compact structure of DNA and protein found inside a cell. It contains may genes.

Genes are the part of a chromosome, and made up of DNA. It controls the appearance of a set of hereditary characteristics.

A single chromosome consists of a single, continous strand of double helix DNA i.e each chromosome consists of linear double stranded DNA molecule, so 46 chromosomes means 46 strands of double helix DNA in a cell.
