A drought is a condition in which the weather becomes unusually dry and no rainfall occurs in a particular area.

Effects of Drought:

  • It results in shortage of water which causes interference in human activities.
  • The water supply reservoirs, well and other water bodies become empty.
  • Irrigation cannot be done resulting in crop destruction.
  • Water animals and fishes die due to dried water bodies.
  • The economic condition decreases due to loss of crops and animals.
  • Natural vegetation like forest get destroyed and due to lack of rainfall.

Causes of drought:

  • Plants are partly responsible for rainfall. If we cut down trees, we cut down rainfall also resulting in drought condition.
  • Excess irrigation causes loss of water.
  • Soil erosion decreases the quality and moisture of soil causing excess dryness.
  • Pollution is changing our climate every day which is also responsible for the increased heat of the atmosphere causing drought conditions.
