Question

What is extracellular digestion

Open in App
Solution

The term extracellular implies 'out side the cell'. When food is digested outside the cell i.e in the body cavity or in the digestive tube it is known as extracellular digestion. It is carried out by some fungi by secreting some digestive enzymes over the food particles. These enzymes converts the large food particles into smaller ones which can easily diffuse into the organism's body.
