Question

what is global warming? how it is caused? how to stop it?

Open in App
Solution

Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the earth. Global warming is caused by the green house gases.

Some of the green house gases are:

  • Water vapour(H2O)
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Methane(CH4)
  • Nitrous oxide (N2O)
  • Ozone (O3)

GHGs are gases that absorb and respond vibrationally to radiation at certain wavelengths. They can then re-emit IR radiation, or transfer this kinetic energy to other molecules. This effect of absorbing and reradiating photons leads to a retention of IR radiation that the Earth emits, so that the average temperature of the Earth inreases. Once the Earth achieves radiative equilibrium, or achieves close to equilibrium, its temperature will be higher (lower) than what it was before the GHE increased (decreased).

Global warming can be controlled by checking the amount of green house gases in the atmosphere.
