Full form - Indian Remote Sensing (IRS).
It is a satellite system that was launched off in 1988 as IRS-1A.
Features –

1. It has eleven satellites in operation and is a joint venture of India and France.
2. It is the largest civilian remote sensing satellite constellation in the world.
3. It provides imageries of areas ranging from one metre to 500 metres.
4. It is applicable for obtaining information on agriculture, water resources, urban development, mineral prospecting, environment, forestry, drought and flood forecasting, ocean resources and disaster management.
