Lactic acid is produced due to the anaerobic respiration. During the heavy exercise, ample amount of oxygen is required. when body is unable to fulfill the oxygen requirement, body derive the energy through anaerobic respiration in which pyruvic acid is converted into lactic acid. This lactic acid is responsible for the pain in muscles during heavy exercise.
