Question

What is meant by charging by induction ?

Open in App
Solution

Take one object which is electrically neutral and the other negatively charged. When you bring the negatively charged object closer to neutral object, the electrons in the neutral object repel and if you connect the neutral object to earth by earthing, those electrons will move to the earth. So overall number of positive charge is increased in the neutral object and hence it is now charged. This is called charging by induction. In simple terms, charging by induction is a method of charging a neutral object, using a charged object, without establishing physical contact between them.
