Latent heat of vapourization is the amount of heat(energy) required to change 1 kg of a liquid substance into gaseous state at atmospheric pressure, at the boiling point of the substance.

Applications:

1) In extinguishing fire

2) During perspiration latent heat of vaporization causes cooling effect

3) Cooling of water in earthen pots during summer
