what is meant by partial pressure and what is the exact meaning of mole fraction?
Dear student!
Partial pressure is the pressure applied by each individual gas of a gaseous solution when two or more non reacting gases are mixed in a container.
The total pressure of mixture gas = sum of the partial pressures of all the gases present in the solution.
Further, the mole fraction is defined as the no. of moles (concentration) of solute or solvent present in the total moles of the solution.
If moles of solute = n1 and moles of solvent = n2
Then, moles of solution = (n1 + n2 )
So, mole fraction of solute = n1 / (n1 + n2 )
mole fraction of solvent = n2 / (n1 + n2 )
