Question

What is meant by polar conductance ?

Open in App
Solution

It seems that you are asking molar conductance.
Molar conductance (Λm ) is defined as the conductance caused by all the ions present in 1M (1 Molar) and 1cm3 volume solution where electrodes are placed at a distance of 1 cm and area of the cross section is large enough to accomodate the total solution.
Λm = 1000× kM
where k is specific conductivity and M is molarity.
while,
Equivalent conductance (Λeq) is defined as conductance caused by all the ions present in 1N (1 Normal) and 1cm3 volume solution where electrodes are placed at a distance of 1 cm and area of the cross section is large enough to accomodate the total solution.
Λeq = 1000 × kN
where k is specific conductivity and N is normality.
