Momentum is the measure of motion of a body. It is the product of velocity and mass. It is a vector quantity.

From the following definitions you can find the differences between angular and linear momentum.

Angular momentum is defined as the product of moment of inertia and angular velocity of a body.

A body of mass ‘m’ revolving in a circular path of radius ‘r’ with angular velocity ‘ω’ will have an angular momentum as,

L =( r × p) [bold letters indicate vector quantities]

L=Iω

The SI unit of angular momentum is kg m2/s

Linear momentum is defined as the product of mass and linear velocity of a body.

A body of mass ‘m’ moving with velocity ‘v’ has a linear momentum of,

P = mv [bold letters indicate vector quantities]

The SI unit of linear momentum is kg m/s.
